BLOOM AQUA AND THE SHRIMP INDUSTRY
Providing efficient and effective recirculating production solutions

Introduction

An increasingly popular source of protein worldwide, the shrimp industry is struggling to increase supply in an environmentally sustainable way.

In conjunction with major players in Thailand and Vietnam, Bloom Aqua has developed scalable, low discharge, and high-density production systems for the shrimp industry.

The shrimp industry today – struggling
with a variety of issues:

LOCATED IN SENSITIVE AREAS

Traditional shrimp farms must have a continuous supply of large volumes of saline water.

Such areas can include environmentally sensitive areas such as mangrove and wetland habitats.

HIGH USER OF ANTIBIOTICS & WATER DISINFECTANTS

Shrimp cultured outdoor in traditional systems are exposed to various diseases.

Treating these diseases requires intensive use of medications and disinfectants that, due to the intensive water turnover, are often discharged to the environment.

LOW YIELDS AND LARGE LAND REQUIREMENTS

Extensive farms yield <2 kgm³
Intensive farms 2-4 kg/m³
Super intensive farms yielding up to 15kg/m³

HIGH MORTALITY

Figures for Thailand’s shrimp industry suggest mortality rates of up to 75% per shrimp cycle in some farming areas.

LASTING NEGATIVE ECOLOGICAL IMPACT

Traditional shrimp farms have a significant footprint on the environment due to their size and their absolute dependence in discharging of untreated waste water from the farms to the environment.

Our solution for the industry –
the Mini Indoor Shrimp Facility

In conjunction with key industry players in Vietnam and Thailand, we have developed a variety of cost indoor, bio-secure, effective and efficient systems for shrimp production.

Bloom Aqua’s R&D
Mini Indoor Facility
in Thailand

Our Mini Indoor systems for shrimp production are based on full RAS technology and advance clearwater technology.

The Mini indoor system is designed to increase productivity and profitability. Its water treatment components are capable of accommodating high feed inputs, increase growth rates and stocking densities.

Benefits of our
Mini Indoor Shrimp systems

High and stable volumes, total biosecurity and a significant improvement in environmental factors.
Large volume to tank area with easier feeding and good feed conversion ratios.
Good control and easy monitoring of shrimp health and water quality
Reduced freshwater intake, as well as wastewater discharge into the environment.
More than doubled stocking density can be achieved due to improved water quality and water conditions monitoring.
Modular designs ensure that the size can be enlarged according to production plans, from R&D size to complete production plant.
Light construction allows for significantly reduced investment costs.
